Message for applicants for Mobile Robotics Lab.

All the applicants to Mobile Robotics Lab. (Ota Lab.) need to read carefully this home page.

Positions of researchers

To do research in Mobile Robotics Lab., you can get two positions of students. We have no seats of paid students and researchers.

Entrance exam systems are different according to the positions. All the applicants must check the website of Dept. of Precision Engineering, and the website of School of Engineering.

For foreign applicants for master course

Candidates for Master course of Department of Precision Engineering must check web pages: Entrance Examination of Foreign Students of Dept. of Precision Engineering, UTokyo Website for International Students, and Office of International Students, The University of Tokyo.

All the candidates need to consult with the supervising professor under whom the applicant wants to study in good advance; preferably in two month advance.

For those who are applying for the Master’s program, Mobile Robotics Lab. (Ota Lab.) expects that the following terms have to be met.

  • No economic problems to continue study at the university (even in a case that you could not complete Master’s program in two years)
  • You need to be adequately grounded in English, Mathematics, and the use of computers.
  • Your academic records at current or most recently attended university need to be higher than the required level.

For foreign applicants for doctor course

Candidates for Doctor course of Department of Precision Engineering must check web pages: Entrance Examination of Foreign Students of Dept. of Precision Engineering, UTokyo Website for International Students, and Office of International Students, The University of Tokyo.

All the candidates need to consult with the supervising professor under whom the applicant wants to study in good advance; preferably in ONE YEAR advance.

For those who are applying for the Doctoral program, Mobile Robotics Lab. (Ota Lab.) expects that the following terms have to be met.

  • No economic problems to continue study in The University (Very few students can complete the program in three years. Many takes four years to get PhD. You have to be financially supported even for the full five years).
  • You need to be adequately grounded in English, Mathematics, and the use of computers.
  • You need to have already contributed papers. Then, especially you need to be experienced in the basic techniques for laboratory activities
  • Your academic records at current or most recently attended university need to be higher than the required level.
  • You need to have been always close to the research environment.

Graduate students in the Doctoral program are expected to teach students besides their own studies/research. Therefore, a wide range of knowledge in the related field is indispensable. If the candidate had not worked in the prospective research field before starting the Doctoral program, it would take considerable time to just explore the research field. Thus, in such a case, the program could rarely be completed in three years.
