Advanced Robotics with Artificial Intelligence

Arai-Ota Laboratory's research deals with robotics. Robot Engineering has developed versatile mechanisms and theories for their motion. We expect that studies in robotics will evolve into a theory on human beings as artificial intelligence has moved into cognitive science. Our laboratory has developed ``cooperative control among robots'' and ``human friendly machines'' for these years. Our new main research themes cover more advanced robotics like ``Group behavior of mobile robots'' and ``versatile manipulation.'' We define robots as ``machines with intelligence.'' Current technology, however, does not satisfy our requirements. We try to add ability onto robots in the following three ways.
  1. Learning of tasks and environments.
  2. Cooperation among multiple mobile robots.
  3. Aids embedded in environment.
