Introduction of Arai & Ota Lab.
Advanced Robotics with Artificial Intelligence
Arai-Ota Laboratory's research deals with robotics.
Robot Engineering has developed versatile mechanisms and theories for
their motion. We expect that studies in robotics will evolve into a theory
on human beings as artificial intelligence has moved into
cognitive science. Our laboratory has developed ``cooperative control
among robots'' and ``human friendly machines'' for these years. Our new
main research themes cover more advanced robotics like ``Group behavior
of mobile robots'' and ``versatile manipulation.''
We define robots as ``machines with intelligence.''
Current technology, however, does not satisfy our requirements. We try
to add ability onto robots in the following three ways.
- Learning of tasks and environments.
- Cooperation among multiple mobile robots.
- Aids embedded in environment.
Our current research activities are as follows:
- General Manipulation Theory:
Graspless and Releasing manipulation, Utilization of environment, Planning of manipulations.
- Dwarf Intelligence:
Tasks by a group of robots, Cooperation among robots, Task planning of group behaviors.
- Space with Physimedia:
Aids for robots embedded in a building, multimedia system with physical effects.
